What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy, Physical Therapy, and Sports Physio all relate to a type of treatment that helps people recover from injury by reducing pain and restoring function. There are a number of different specialities in within Physiotherapy ranging from Musculoskeletal to Respiratory. At Physio 1st, we specialise in Musculoskeletal or Orthopaedic Physiotherapy. As the name suggests this relates to injuries arising from the muscular and/or skeletal systems. Within this you could further included injuries to the joints, nerves, tendons and ligaments.

People often refer to these conditions as Sports Injuries based on the fact that a large amount of Musculoskeletal injuries occur in sport. The reality is a Sports Injury is no different to a regular injury. All that changes is the way you get the injury in the first place. From a Physiotherapists perspective, they way you sustain the injury can have an affect on how it is managed.

As well as diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating injuries, our Physiotherapists specialise in this ‘Injury Management’. So it doesn’t matter whether you are Wayne Rooney or Pat Butcher, you can expect the same level of care and guidance!

Professionally, our Directors have worked as Sports Physios in Premiership Football. This provides our team with extensive knowledge in the diagnosis, management and treatment of any Orthopaedic or Sports Injury. We use no machines or gizmos only fast, effective hands on manual therapy developed through the refinement of skills and techniques required to look after elite athletes. You can expect to be prodded and pulled, twisted and turned all in the name of a faster recovery. We have a highly specialised team of Physios with both male and female practitioners and operate injury clinics outside of work hours.
